about

Clear is a collection of compositions for clarsach and electronics improvised, written and recorded between 2017 and 2020 by Scott Crawford Morrison.

It is an attempt to reimagine traditional forms and concepts by merging the acoustic with the digital, the historic with the contemporary.

The album is a record of my encounter with a new instrument, an ancient culture, and skirmishes and seductions with a language that I do not possess personally, but which possesses the landscapes that have, in their turn, shaped me. Of this I am learning too.

All sounds heard on the album issue from my harp. The only exceptions are: my voice; a field recording made in a pool of evening sun from the window of my flat in Glasgow on Good Friday 2019; and a cassette containing a Gaelic psalm recording from the Isle of Lewis.

Through pools of ambience, flickering drones and glitching noise, a single source is revolved, reflected and refracted - the clarsach
